Food, glorious food..

Food, I LOVE it. Growing it. Preparing it. Eating it. There’s so many great foodie spots in Lisbon, I’ve grouped my favourites by breakfast/brunch/lunch, dinner, drinks.

Breakfast & Lunch

Copenhagen Coffee Lab‘s cinnamon buns are one of my favourite breakfast treats. You can find this Danish bakery around town now that they’ve opened up new locations. Their dark rye bread (takeaway) is incredible! I’ve been told they do great coffee β˜•οΈ (I don’t drink any).

If you go to Copenhagen Coffee Lab in Alfama or stop by the one next to the Pantheon (climb up to its roof for great views!), do it on a Tuesday or Saturday and you are gifted the famous Feira da Ladra flea market.

Craving croissants πŸ₯ and there’s no Copenhagen Coffee Lab nearby?

Baguettes & Cornets in Alcantara has delicious croissants. And so does La Boulangeria in Santos. My favourites (so buttery!) are found at O Moço in Campo de Ourique.

Brunch time?

Dede’s in Lapa/Estrela does delicious dishes. Their Okonomiyaki and Dede’s bowls (with sesame sauce!) are incredibly tasty. πŸ“ Estrela/Lapa

Lunch places I love…

Cafe Royale on Largo Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro, in between Chiado and Bairro Alto. The cutest (partly covered) garden at the back makes it a cosy spot. Great for brunch, lunch or dinner. πŸ“ Baixa/Chiado

Curva in πŸ“ Graca. Tasty (& affordable!) toasts + they usually have an exhibition going on. A great cafe to work from, too. πŸ‘©πŸΌβ€πŸ’»

Brick Cafe in πŸ“ Anjos. Tasty food (changes per day of the week!) and a nice outdoor terrace.

Maria’s Food Hub in πŸ“ Anjos does beautiful breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Want some bagels? Check out Thank you Mama in πŸ“ Anjos.

Chutnify for tasty (and affordable!) Indian lunch, in πŸ“ Principe Real (their homemade ice tea is in the picture and delicious!).

If you want ice cream after your Indian lunch, you’re right around the corner from the best ice cream in town. And there’s two options! Nannarella or Niva. πŸ“Principe Real

For brunch or lunch with a view, head to Noobai or Madame Petisca, both at πŸ“ Miradouro de Santa Catarina (Adamastor).

Dinner

Senhor Uva in πŸ“ Estrela is amongst my top dinner choices! Only natural, biodynamic and organic wines 🍷 + the tastiest small dishes!

I’m into zero-waste food, which naturally makes SEM one of my favourite food spots in town. Besides the wonderful humans who started this business, their food – and wines! – are incredible. All ingredients come from local (regenerative) producers. πŸ“Alfama

Another one of my go-to dinner places is Cafeh Tehran on the lovely Praca das Flores, in Principe Real. Their beetroot dip and bolo de amor (love cake) are finger-licking-good! πŸ“Principe Real

Tantura is another Middle Eastern option, Israeli! They do a great cauliflower pitta + roasted red pepper hummus… YUM! It’s hidden on a quiet street in πŸ“ Bairro Alto.

One more Middle Eastern place – with, in my opinion, the best falafels – is Mezze. It’s in the πŸ“ Mercado de Arroios. It’s the tasty food and the philosophy of this place that make it special. It’s run by refugees.

A top-choice in the πŸ“ Cais do Sodre/Santos area is Ortea! Not only is their vegan food incredibly tasty, the place looks green & good, too.

If you’re in the Cais do Sodre area and you’ve been recommended the Time Out Food Market, be prepared for a very crowded touristy experience. If you want to enjoy a food market, head to the food market of πŸ“ Campo do Ourique.

Santa Clara dos Congumelos on Campo de Santa Clara, in Graca-Alfama has the tastiest dishes featuring mushrooms πŸ„(congumelos)! Great wines too.

Italian? ZeroZero in πŸ“ Principe Real has a lovely garden to enjoy a tasty Italian dish. Or try Casanova in πŸ“ Santa Apolonia, with a terrace along the Tejo river. If it’s sourdough pizza is what you’re after, Lupita is where you want to go! For a fresh pasta lunch or dinner, try the cosy Caja in πŸ“Anjos.

Os Tibetanos in between πŸ“Principe Real and Avenida is a vegetarian restaurant with incredible homemade chocolate mint ice cream!

Tucked away in a quiet street of Alfama, you find Prado Mercearia. Another favourite of ours that works with local producers and creates the most colourful little dishes.

Drinks

The picture above is taken my friends terrace… but not too far from there, there’s great spots for drinks with a similar view.

Pharmacia, a lovely spot for daytime and sunset drinks at πŸ“the Miradouro of Santa Catarina. Their cocktails come with ‘cures’, πŸ’Š after all, you’re drinking at an old pharmacy (there’s still a pharmacy museum, too).

Noobai across the street has great sangria. Good lunch spot, too.

If wine is your thing and you’ve already had dinner and wine at Senhor Uva, head to the other side of town (πŸ“Graca) for a glass of vinho at VinoVero.

For a Bring-Your-Own picnic or sunset drinks spot, I love meeting friends at the miradouros (viewpoints) of Monte Agudo or Nossa Senhora do Monte. Jardim Torel 🌳 is a wonderful spot for this, too! It’s a calmer option. πŸ§˜πŸ½β€β™€οΈ

PARK BAR, a bar on the roof of a car park. Comes with a similar view as in the image above.

TOPO is a rooftop bar and restaurant in different locations around the city + Cascais. My personal favourite is on top of a warehouse in πŸ“ Martim Moniz with an epic view of the Sao Jorge castle!

If you’re in/near πŸ“ Belem, have a river-side drink & snack at Espelho d’Agua. With a gorgeous view to the river and a good cocktail selection, this is a real gem in a super busy (tourist) area. It’s an art space, too!
